Would it work if a few of us get the money up and then charge people at the door 🙂 (or in drinks, either way!). I would contribute money now, but being a student I am completly and utterly skint...so much so I might not be able to make it to the club James. I am however willing to help out anyway you need me to. e.g. holding onto the money 😉
OK, I just got back home after swinging by the Harrison pub.
First, it's not a dive, it's a clean and proper place, very nice (VERY nice) and a little hidden between the (nicely done up) council estates...at least I'm assuming they were what they were. The clientele on a Monday night was sparse, but quite approchable. Tonight, there were startin ...[text shortened]...
In short, based on my gut instinct, this is a good place to hold a party.
What say you all?

I'm just trying to get my head around the business case for a pub that closes on Saturday...

Originally posted by ivangriceWell, I gave you a business case for a pub that wouldn't open on a Saturday. And no Kings X is not the City. No, I don't know why this particular pub would be closed on a Saturday (apart from the assumption that it may be dead on a Saturday night). It's something I can follow up on.
A council housing estate in King's Cross ain't the City...
I wasn't deliberately making a comparison between the two regions, though looking at my post, I can see where there maybe some confusion. Ah well, I'll be more careful with my posts.

yeah exactly what's going on, is it really shut on saturdays
D'Olivier thank you so much for doing that!! What were your impressions of the landlord? Was he asking for a deposit just in case no-one showed up or was it more a finacial incentive? I can't afford to pay the £300 deposit, even if i could, i'm not sure i'd want to take the risk of loosing it. How much would we need to drink exactly? £300's of booze or more? We'd easily consume £300's worth, but anything over £600's of consumption is beyond the realms of being predictable.
I'll have to give him a ring when we have a date. Did you tell him what the occasion was? I spoke to him on the phone earlier but only to establish where they are really.
Again, thank you so much for doing a recon, it's much appretiated! 😀

Thinking about it, i don't see why the hell we should pay anything up front. Fine, if this place is closed on saturday, it's their loss! There are a thousand or more places that'd bend over backwards to get 30 odd people through the door, we can find somewhere better. The fact that they have chess supplies is nice, but we could always just bring a few boards and concentrate on knocking back more booze!! Who's with me?
Originally posted by marinakatombI agree entirely. I don't undestand why such a large deposit is required. And I am completely flumaxed as to why the amount of beer that is quaffed is linked to us getting the deposit back. I understand that London is an expensive place, but this is turning into a second mortgage job.
